Burying the dead can be costly and the Ministry of Health intends to tax anyone who violates its health codes. Anyone who violates those codes will be prosecuted under the Public Health Act and can be charged one thousand dollars if a court finds them guilty. According to a press release sent from the Ministry, burial of family members on private residences, is against the law. Undertakers are also required to provide their services only for cemeteries that are approved and compliant with the Public Health Act. However, it is not impossible to have a private burial at a family cemetery outside of service areas. An application can be made to the Director of Health Services to review the burial site.
