A family in Ladyville Village, Belize District is trying to come to terms with the unexpected news of the death of their father, Sylvin Thomas Encalada Senior, also known as Mr Cruz.  The watchman at the Maya Cement Warehouse in Ladyville went on duty at six o’clock yesterday evening, as he has been doing for the last eighteen years.  It is an interesting case as Love News understands that the man was found on the floor of the security booth with a rope around his neck indicating that perhaps he took his own life.  We spoke with his daughter, Amalia Encalada who told us that her father was not suicidal.

AMALIA ENCALADA

“I got the news this morning at about 6:15; they told me that they found my dad dead at work.”

“When was the last time you saw your dad?”

AMALIA ENCALADA

“Yesterday at about 4:30pm … My dad would never do anything like that, he could go through hell and river bottom and that is the way he was. For him to hang himself – he had my kids to live for and his grandchildren. He would have never left us behind so he could never commit suicide. The person who did that to him knew him very well so that they could do that to him to make it look like it is a suicide but they haven’t found any wallet on him. He always had his wallet and extra money in his underpants and no cash or IDs have been found on him and that is not him, he takes his wallet everywhere to show his identification. He reached work at 6:00pm in the evening and was to come home at six in the morning.  He was a known person to everyone in the village, he would always go and talk and that was how he got around.”

According to Encalada, there were no indications that would even point them to the thoughts or suspicions that their household head had taken his life.  She recalls the last interaction the family had with the deceased.

“When was the last time you saw your dad?”

AMALIA ENCALADA

“Well, we were just talking fun and jokes inside.  I had my friend over and he was just excited to see that I have people around me that love me the same as he; that was the last time I see him and talk to him – that was our last meal yesterday morning.  Like I told you, my dad is a person who always brings everyone around him.  If you asked him for a dollar or two he would always give them.”

Police were called out to the scene just before seven o’clock this morning.  It is expected that investigators will be treating the matter as a homicide as the results of the post mortem examination have revealed that Encalada died of manual strangulation.  Love News understands that there were marks on the victim’s ankles indicating that he was held down and that at the time of the incident, he had in his possession about three thousand dollars.  Encalada was found in his security booth on the compound.  It is our understanding that there are functioning cameras on the compound and investigators will be reviewing the footage to ascertain what really transpired.
