It is to be noted that the amount of reports on firearm offences, shootings and murders has tapered off in the last few weeks; we asked Dawson to talk to us about their added efforts particularly considering that the areas under Precinct Two were the hot spots for crime.

“We have acquired some motorbikes and we have changed our mode of patrolling. We do not use as much vehicular resources at this time; we use motorcycles more because it covers more ground and the presence is more visible using motorbikes. I think that has helped and we get a lot more cooperation from the public. We have established some VCPs; if you noticed, we have a tent there where we post police officers and also in the Linda Vista area in St. Martins. We have been getting good feedback from the public and these things actually make a difference in the neighborhood so what we do now to cover more area is use motorcycles to compliment the VCP and also the officers when the VCP gets a little slow then they patrol the areas that we had already mapped out to keep the presence in the area so I think that has been helping.”

There are currently four precincts in Belize City.
