Residents of Dangriga have seen an influx of the political machinery of the two major political parties as they prepare for the upcoming by-election in that municipality.  We hear more in this report from correspondent Harry Arzu.

“Ivan Ramos, who was the Area Representative for Dangriga resigned from the House of Representatives on June 8 which triggered a bi-election for the said constituency slated for July 8. The two main political parties that will definitely contest the bi-elections are the UDP and their candidate is Frank Mena and the PUP whose candidate is Anthony Sabal. Love News is getting reports of a third party coalition between the People’s National Party and the Vision Inspired by the People who is also showing interest in contesting the upcoming by election. However the political momentum is picking up here in this municipality as well as in Hope Creek and Sarawee by the two major political parties. Love News caught up with the PUP candidate, Anthony Sabal.”

ANTHONY SABAL

“We looked at the organization that exists;l so I inherited the organization that is there and yes, we did not win the municipal election but everything there is intact and so it was (1) sitting with everybody, looking at what exists, using what exists. What is more important is how we keep the dignity and integrity of Dangriga; how we look at the problems that exist in Dangriga.  We have been neglected, how do we get the message out to the people that we deserve better.”

HARRY ARZU

“What are some of the issues that are facing the people of Dangriga and concerns and how do you intend to address these?”

ANTHONY SABAL

“Talking with the people, that was another strategy, listening to the people – it is very clear our youths, the parents that tell us about joblessness, the lack of jobs and the neglect that exists. You look at corruption, you look at preferential treatment that people of Dangriga have gotten. I am new to politics, yes, but not new to listening to people and feeling what they feel.”

HARRY ARZU

“Love News made attempts to speak to Frank Mena but we were told that he was in a meeting. The voting population for the Dangriga, Sarawee and Hope Creek constituency is some 6,275.”
