Today a group of parents vented their frustration at the Principal of Nazarene High School in Belize City.  According to the parents when they came to pick up their children’s report card today, they were informed that the children would not be allowed to repeat. The children were in effect being expelled from the school without being offered a second chance.  The parents say they are upset because in some cases they have already begun preparations for the new school year.

When I spoke to the principal and she told me that she couldn’t do anything if my child didn’t try hard enough because at the end of the day she really needed to push harder. Nobody’s child is a genius none and I believe that geniuses don’t go to school so what the vice principal did was wrong and Mrs. Segura said that she can’t override what the Vice Principal did. She is the Principal but because I speak out for what happened to my nephew here my daughter is being penalized. My daughter has no demerits and he is the trouble one and my daughter has two demerits just look at that. My daughter is a quiet child and she doesn’t disrespect any of them and now they are going to put out the two children today. Where are we going to find a school? She said I’m sorry I wish you find a school because we have no space to accommodate them then why would you be putting out to take in, so be the case you have space to accommodate new comers why would you put out the children? They deserve a fair chance in life that is the same reason why we have a lot of violence happening in the streets right now with young people.”

“They were not given the opportunity to repeat at all?

Parent

“They were not given the opportunity to at least take a summer class to make up just three points.

You were told about this that they would be expelled and not allowed to come back into school today?

Parent

“That is the result today.

Have you bought uniforms or stuff?

Parent

“ I bought everything for my kids it’s only books that I have been waiting for to get for my big daughter?

 So what’s your plan?

Parent

I have no plan B because all the schools were full and the rest of children are coming this side for a space and they are getting it so where are our children to go? What are we to do as parents?

Have you spoken with the principal?

Parent

“Yes I did but she said that she can’t do anything about it because the decision was made and she wasn’t’ there and the decision was made by the Vice Principal and the teachers. One of the police said that I have to listen to what the principal is saying because if my child worked hard enough I cut him off and told him that my child did work hard enough because 57.2 nobody knows what most of those children go through when they go into exams. If it was a 30% I would not have had an argument point about it because then she would have been far from the score but three points? Are you going to tell me that a summer class couldn’t do that other than put them in the streets? These kids of people here are the failures of society right here because when you put out a child you down their motive for learning on a whole. “

Parent

“I noticed the principal is not fair. I have her grades and everything and she is putting the child to repeat. If you can look at these this is the one today that she wants to have repeat. I paid for a transcript and I’ve been here from 8:30am and I can’t get it, not even twenty minutes ago a lady passed and showed us her two transcripts they told us today 4pm. She didn’t come out to talk to us, the principal, all she wants is money and I say give the devil what he’s due. My daughter studied hard, I’m not saying she was a genius but I know she passed. I saw I don’t have time to mess with her, all I want is my transcript. Most of these schools are dealing with their thing. Earlier they called the police to put us out.

We were unable to get a comment from school officials.
