BDF soldiers charged with drug offences

According to police on Wednesday evening July 1 sometime around 5:49 pm, members of the mobile interdiction team were conducting vehicular checkpoints between mile 30 and 31 on the George Price Highway when a blue four door Ford Escort car that was coming from the direction of Belmopan to Belize City suddenly turned back upon seeing the checkpoint. The officers then immediately set chase and caught up with the vehicle in the Mahogany Heights area. The occupants of the vehicle were two male persons. The vehicle was searched in their presence where a black plastic bag containing green leafy substances suspected to be cannabis was found. Both occupants were informed of the offences committed, placed under arrest and were escorted to the Belmopan Police Station. At the station the suspected cannabis was weighed which amounted 2317 grams. As a result both occupants of the vehicle, 29 year old Keiral Vince Hernandez a BDF Corporal of Belize City and 28 year old Richard Marin a Belizean Private soldier of George Town Village were charged for the offence of drug trafficking.”
