Man shot while at Belize City Park

Belize City police are trying to figure out who shot 24 year old Jerome Smith. According to reports, just after ten o’clock last night, police responded to a shooting incident at Buttonwood Bay Park located at Corner Seashore Drive and Bay Street where they saw sitting on the top of the bleachers, bleeding. He reported that he was sitting at the top of the bleachers at the park along with a friend when a male person walked from behind the bleachers to the front of the bleachers, stood in front of them and opened fire in their direction injuring Smith. Superintendent Hilberto Romero shared more details.

“We had another shooting that occurred in Buttonwood Bay. Police responded to that area around 10:10pm where they found Jerome Smith with gunshot injuries to the chest and legs. He was taken to the KHMH where he is in a stable condition. We don’t have any motive, we know that he was hanging out there and the information we have is that a vehicle passed and someone from within that vehicle fire the shots.

“Does it appear to be a random shooting?”

“Like I said we are not sure we are speaking to the victim he is at the KHMH and we will follow through on that investigation.”

“But he is not known to police?”

“No.”

Reports are that the gunman then escaped in a grey car that was waiting by the park. Police have no leads.
