Was There A Boycott of Executive Meeting by PUPs? Fonseca Says No

Those are indeed pertinent issues that were tabled today inside the PUP’s Independence Hall … but not pertinent enough, it seems, to have a great attendance.  The members trickled in and by two thirty, the meeting had less than twenty of about forty five persons who were to attend.  The party however was not fazed as explained by the Party Chairman, Henry Charles Usher followed by PUP Party Leader Francis Fonseca.

HENRY USHER

“I don’t know of any organized reason; I know a few of them gave us apologies as to why they couldn’t be here today and I think others had work related items they had to deal with. There is nothing organized against it ,it’s just that they couldn’t be here today. As I said, it was a regular meeting so it wasn’t like anything special was brought up, we had a majority of them. A majority of the executive, they were upstairs and we had a good meeting. We went through what was the plan for the next couple of months and that was basically the agenda for today.”

RENEE TRUJILLO

“So you’re saying that there is not a formal boycott of this meeting by several of the party members?”

HENRY USHER

“There is no formal boycotting of anything, they gave formal apologies as to why they couldn’t be here.”

LOCAL REPORTER

“But you said not all of them, a few of them, who apologized for not coming?”

HENRY USHER

“Well the Secretary General has the roster.”

FRANCIS FONSECA EMERGES

“What is this talk of a boycott?  I don’t know what you are talking about there is no boycott.”

LOCAL REPORTER

“Six of eight from the north are absent…….”

FRANCIS FONSECA

“That happens at many meetings, at many meetings we don’t have full participation; there is absolutely nothing to be read into that at all, about any boycott. The Honorable John Briceno is out of the country in Merida with his son who is sick and a number of other standard bearers had funerals which there is nothing unusually about that and in the case Landy Habet, he had a board meeting.”

RENEE TRUJILLO

“So, you haven’t gotten any sort of news or notice that there are members who are unhappy with your leadership and that this is one of several messages that are coming to you to give up the seat?”

FRANCIS FONSECA

“To give up what? No, not at all; I am not aware of any boycott.”

The meeting ended just after four o’clock this evening.  Notably absentees were from every caucus with the exception of the southern caucus whose four standard bearers were present.  From the Northern caucus, only Florencio Marin Jr and Ramon Munchy Cervantes were present.
