Under normal circumstances the police station is where one would run for security or protection … but today, the officers and employees of Precinct Two at Racoon Street had to call on the Belize Defense Force when an object seemed to be a grenade, was found inside a desk drawer at the police station.  Commander of the BDF, Brigadier General David Jones responded to the call and gave us a brief statement on what was found.

DAVID JONES

“It was inside the police station. They called me and asked if we could come and find out what it is and verify what it is and I was there but it’s not a live grenade. It’s a grenade used for riot control.”

RENEE TRUJILLO

“Does that pose any kind of danger?”

DAVID JONES

“No, it’s only an irritant so it wouldn’t hurt anyone.”

RENEE TRUJILLO

“Do they have any idea how it got there or what it was doing there?”

DAVID JONES

“Only the police would be able to answer. It should be something that is secured somewhere.”

RENEE TRUJILLO

“So, where it is now?”

DAVID JONES

“I have it at Price Barracks.”

The find was made just after three o’clock this afternoon and by four thirty all was back to normal.
