Wayne Gentle – Homeless

“I can’t believe it, nobody could have told me that I would have come to this.”

“If you think that you have it bad then you better think again. In fact, think about 59 year old Wayne Gentle. He has been having it bad for the past years but in the past three months, his situation has been terrible. He lives on Neal Penn Road but not in a house or proper structure- he basically lives in a hole he created in some bushes surrounded by heaps of garbage.

“Well my condition is from a piece of long board that I stretch out on and I have to make a bed and get in to get out and it’s the same way I came out and  that is it.”

You’ve been doing that for more than three months?

Wayne Gentle

“Almost three months.”

What is it like?

Wayne Gentle

“It’s not nice, its punishing.”

But it wasn’t like this all the time. Gentle had his house- an old small one made of plywood that he had been living in since Belize got its independence but months ago, strong winds blew it down.

Wayne Gentle

“It wasn’t always like it, it looked like something presentable, you could see it from the bridge that it was a little house that someone lived in there. Now it looks like no one looks here. It looks like a part of waste control.”

To make some money, Gentle chops yards here and there. He has no children and he says his brothers and sisters are too busy with their children to assist him. He is now clearing the land to build something a bit more hospitable but he needs your help.

“I’m tired of this, I want to get rid of that stuff. People tell me that snakes will bite me and all kinds of things.”

Hipolito Novelo, Love News

Are you afraid of that?

Wayne Gentle

“Yes I’m a little afraid of the snakes but my urine I try to keep them away with that because snakes don’t like the smell of urine.”
