Yesterday, seventeen new Peace Corps volunteers were sworn in at a special ceremony held at the San Ignacio Hotel in the Cayo District.  These new volunteers will work over the next two years in communities across the country to provide capacity building and community development support for the Rural Family Health Project. In concert with the Belize Ministries of Health and Education, Youth & Sports, these new Peace Corps Volunteers will support their assigned communities through health education and promotion with a focus on maternal/child health and non-communicable diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes.  The volunteers will serve in Kriol, Mestizo and Q’eqchi Maya communities in all six districts of Belize.
