A letter dated September 28, 2015 was sent to the Prime Minister from the Leader of the Opposition stating his party’s desire to have an independent organization come in to observe the upcoming general elections in Belize.  Well, tonight we can tell you that the Organization of American States (OAS) will be sending an Election Observation Mission to Belize and this will be done in accordance with an agreement signed between the OAS and the Belize Government.  The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro was quoted in an online publication as saying that their organization will be making a meaningful contribution to the strengthening of democracy in the hemisphere as they will also be deploying missions to Colombia, Guatemala and Haiti later this month.  This is the second time that the OAS Observation Mission will be in Belize since 2012 when the general and municipal elections were held simultaneously.  The mission is expected in the country about one week before the elections on November 4.
