“We keep sending out notices and advisories; we are still reminding people who live along river banks to be careful.  We are monitoring Belize City, the monitors are there and it’s rising slowly. We are monitoring the Rio Hondo and the Mopan rivers as well for any possible flood in those areas based on the heavy rains that have fallen. The latest advisory we have from the MET Department is that this low pressure area near the coast of Belize has moved over the Yucatan Peninsula and weakened a bit which is good news but development of the system appears unlikely but however it could produce still heavy localized rain on portions of Belize so we still have to be very vigilant of that. The NEMO hotlines continue to remain open and all the coordinators can be reached if anybody has any emergency but so far the machinery is working fairly satisfactorily.”

According to the National Hurricane Centre, the area of low pressure previously near the coast of Belize has moved inland over the Yucatan Peninsula and has weakened to a trough.October Flooding 3
