Every year the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, Small Business Management and Principles of Marketing Classes hold a marketing exposition. This year was no different as the students got the opportunity to put into practice the theories and skills they have been learning in their course. The students who were broken down into 25 groups, created actual products that are on sale at the expo.

HIPOLITO NOVELO REPORTS

“Twenty five groups of students from the University of Belize were tasked in coming up with a business idea that they think would be successful in the real world. They then had to turn that idea into a product or service which was showcased and sold today at the 8th annual marketing exposition at the Ramada Princess Hotel in Belize City.”

IDA ARZU

“They start as a simple concept in class that is being developed and so some of the ideas that came about are local ideas like to use local products like fruits, vegetables, customized stuff.”

HIPOLITO NOVELO

“And the ideas brought forward this year are they totally different from last year’s ideas or in the same line?”

IDA ARZU

“Yes they are not expected to produce something that was produced last year, that is usually the challenge where they are expected to think out of the box and be very visionary and so I make sure that I pay attention to detail when it comes to the product or service that they will chose.”

“For example there is the home made product- FESS- Fresh Exfoliating Skin Solution.”

ERICA ROWLAND

“We provide body washes; we make natural coconut body wash for female and male.  We have two types, the male has the darker bottles and the female with lighter packaging.”

“In terms of the grade itself what are you guys looking for?”

“We are looking for innovation; we are looking for meeting a market need and a market demand. We are also looking at where the students are able to create something that is unique and at the same time for them to be able to meet global expectations in their future.”

HIPOLITO NOVELO REPORTS

“The expo was filled with unique ideas but in the real world “uniqueness” is just part of the equation. You need something that is practical..something that you can market and sell……something like Sabor Belize Pure Coconut Oil.”

IDA ARZU

“We have invited the banks, small business groups that can help with partnering with the businesses, we have looked at proprietors that may seek partnership with the students as well because some of them are looking at how they can gain knowledge and experience as well from successful businesses.”
