24-year-old Dennis Arthur Talbert Junior is behind bars tonight after he was charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm and two live rounds of ammunition for a point thirty eight firearm. Late this evening he was taken before Magistrate Deborah Rogers. Members of the Gang Suppression Unit said they found Talbert in possession of a point thirty eight revolver, one he did not have a licence for. They also allege he had two point thirty eight ammunition. Talbert pleaded not guilty to the charges. Due to the nature of the offences he could not be granted bail and Magistrate Rogers remanded him to Belize Central Prison until January 6, 2016. Tasher’s attorney, Oscar Selgado said he will applying to the Supreme Court for bail on his client’s behalf on Friday. Selgado said his client told him he is innocent of the charge. He said he was at home when police came and took him to a next door yard where behind a fence they showed him a gun and said it was his. Selgado said his client has no knowledge and was never in possession of the firearm in question and on that ground he will make a bail application. According to Selgado the house where the police claim they found the gun in the yard s the house next to his client who was never present in the yard in which the GSU found the firearm.
