“A fatal traffic accident on the Hummingbird Highway between miles 54 and 55 in front of Lopez Auto Salvage left one man dead. Based on information received on Thursday afternoon sometime around 1:15pm Love News visited the scene. On the right hand shoulder of the highway we saw the lifeless body of a Hispanic male person lying face up with serious head and body injuries. Love News understands that police constable Donald Smith, a resident of Belmopan who is attached to the Belmopan sub formation was driving his grey and black Mazda tribute from the direction of the Guanacaste Junction en route to Belmopan. Upon reaching in front of Lopez Auto Salvage a person that was travelling on a bicycle in front of him suddenly gave way to another person on a bicycle who was coming from the opposite direction and at that point he swerved into the vehicle Smith was driving. As a result the person was hit off his bicycle and onto the pavement and died on the spot. His name was later learned to be 47 year old Lucas Ayala a vendor of Las Flores Belmopan. Police investigation continues.”
