Orange Walk Police are investigating a case of trafficking in persons. Reports are that on Saturday midday, members of the Orange Walk Police Quick Response Team visited a bar located on Otro Benque Road in Orange Walk Town. There, they came across the owner of the bar in the company of a 10-year-old, female student and two women from Poptun, Guatemala. Police say one of the women told them that on November 12, 2015 they were brought to Belize by the owner of the bar under the pretense that they were going to be employed in a fast food restaurant. She said when she and her mother arrived in the country they were taken to the bar where up to Saturday they sold alcohol and socialized with men. She said she was forced to have sex with strangers on two separate occasions. The woman told police that the only reason she complied with the demand was because, she was threatened that her two children, who were still in Guatemala, and her mother would be killed. Not only that, but she also told police that since she started working at the bar, she has not been paid. Police are investigating.
