The Public Utilities Commission will be reviewing a request made yesterday by the Belize Electricity Limited as it surrounds the current rate for electricity.  BEL is asking for an eleven percent increase on their rates which would take it from thirty five cents per kilowatt hour to just under thirty nine cents.  According to BEL, this change in rates is based on an underestimation of the Cost of Power (COP) impact of BEL’s Gas Turbine and an overestimation of the COP impact, primarily due to lower rates from Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).  In addition, their request would, says BEL, reflect the actual cost of power for the 2012 – 2016 Full Tariff Review Period (FTRP).
