“Over the weekend as well we arrested and charged prison officer Juan Perez who was caught Saturday night at 8pm trying to smuggle 483 grams of cannabis into Kolbe Foundation. We also have arrested and charged Kolbe prison cook for drug trafficking when he attempted to smuggle 28 grams of cannabis into that facility and his name is Fabian Chen and he is 28 years old.”

Perez was not given a sentence when he appeared today before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza. Magistrate Mendoza levied a fine of ten thousand dollars. Perez has until June of next year to pay the fine. If the father of two fails to pay, he will serve three years. Perez confessed that it was an inmate that asked him to bring the drugs into prison for him.
