Stop and Search Yields 50+ Pounds of Marijuana

A stop and search this morning resulted in the discovery of over 55 pounds of Marijuana. Our Belmopan correspondent Fem Cruz reports.

“Belmopan Police continue their Christmas anti crime patrols within Belmopan and surrounding villages. As a result this morning December 22 some time around 8:30 they conducted a stop and search at the Guanacaste Park roundabout junction bus stop. Superintendent Howell Gillet, Officer in command of the Belmopan Branch explained the success of the search.”

Some of our officers were on a vehicular patrol within our jurisdiction and upon reaching near a bus shed at the new round a bout that is under construction they intercepted a white Toyota Corolla car with Benque Viejo license plates. The driver who was the sole occupant at the time attempted to escape but was quickly captured and brought into our custody. A search of the vehicle revealed two large sacks which contained six smaller parcels of suspected cannabis amounting to just over 55 pounds.”

 

This evening 25-year-old Water Hans Rodriquez of Hillview area in San Ignacio appeared in court where he was charged with drug trafficking. Rodriguez was remanded to Belize Central Prison until January 19.
