15-Month-Old Child Knocked Down in Northern Belize

A 15-month-old little girl, Genesis Medina, was knocked down in San Estevan Village, Orange Walk District on Sunday evening, December 27 at around five o’clock.  According to Superintendent Selvin Tillett commanding the Orange Walk Police Station, the man driving the Mazda pickup truck, Eliseo Larios, has been slapped with several charges.

Orange Walk Police visited Calle El Sol in San Estevan Village in the Orange Walk District where police observed the body of a female infant that was lying motionless face up on the right hand side of the street. The body had a large open fractured skull on the right side of the forehead, scrapes and wounds to her chest with a large piece of brain tissue about five feet away from the body. Initial investigations revealed that at about 4:40pm Genesis Medina, one year and three months old, came out of a home, walked out on the streets without her parents being aware when a gold in color 1993 Mazda pick up fatally knocked her down. One Belizean laborer of Trial Farm have been arrested and charged for manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, failure to stop and render aid, failure to report an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol as well without due care and attention.”

As investigations are ongoing, it is yet to be determined if the parents of the child will be charged as well.
