“Due to the state of decomposition an onsite post mortem was conducted on the body of 37-year-old, Canadian National, Matthew Klinck. He was found dead outside a house he rented in Selena Village in the Spanish Lookout area in the Cayo District. He had been stabbed more than a dozen times to the neck.

SUPT. ANDREW RAMIREZ (Commanding Officer for San Ignacio)

“We also observed the house ransacked, the vehicle that he had was also open. As a matter of fact the body was in a state of decomposition already and we had commenced an investigation. The body was protected throughout the night until an onsite post mortem was done today. We are at the conclusion, the doctor certified that he had a total of 14 stab wounds to the upper part of his body mainly in the neck area. So now no doubt that this is a murder investigation.”

HIPOLITO NOVELO REPORTING

“It is believed that Klinck was killed sometime on Saturday night. The last person to see him alive was his caretaker, Edwin Paz.”

EDWIN PAZ

“It was last night at around 8:30 I was working at my house and his friends came in and then they found the door open. They didn’t find him and they didn’t have lights on them so they came back and asked me to come along with them and bring a flashlight so I came back with them. We yelled for him and nothing. I came downstairs and I lit the yard and I found the body. Sometimes they come in with different girls so beside that nobody has recently come through the gate. I have nice guard dogs that take care of the place and nobody came through the gates.”

 HIPOLITO NOVELO REPORTING

“Klinck was a filmmaker out of Gatineau, Canada and his recent project was the 2012 thriller, ‘Kurse a di Xtabai’ which was filmed in Belize. . Why would anyone want to kill Klinck is the question on everyone’s mind.”

SUPT. ANDREW RAMIREZ

“Motive is unknown at the moment, the only information that we have at this point in time is that he was last seen at about 4pm in his vehicle around his premises. If you had visited the area you would have noted that these areas are isolated, the houses are not really closely built together and imagine committing this kind of act at night the possibility will be there that it will be a very challenging investigation. I have no idea because everything was inside the house so I guess the just came straight here to kill him.”

EDWIN PAZ

“I have no idea how he was killed because everything was inside the house so I guess they just came straight here to kill him. There was no reason to disturb anything.”

LOCAL REPORTER

“So the place was not ransacked at all? Everything was in order?”

EDWIN PAZ

“Everything was in order but the door was open. Everything was laying on the ground sometimes. He was so busy working he would just drop everything on the ground but nothing was a mess.”

HIPOLITO NOVELO REPORTING

“The murder weapon has not been recovered and police are following all leads.”

SUPT. ANDREW RAMIREZ

“Mr. Reyes who is the lead investigator in relation to this matter is very determined and I would hope that we get success in relation to the authors of this act.”

HIPOLITO NOVELO REPORTING

“San Ignacio police has informed the Canadian Consulate in Belize about Klinck’s murder. Klinck has no family in Belize and we understand that his relatives plan to arrive in Belize on Thursday.  Reporting for Love News, I am Hipolito Novelo.”
