UB Graduates 478 Young Men and Women

Four hundred and seventy eight students will be graduating from the University of Belize during the institution’s 22nd Commencement Exercise, scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 6 at the gymnasium in Belmopan, Cayo District.  Of the total number of graduates, one hundred and ninety six are coming out the Faculty of Education and Arts; one hundred and seventy six from Management and Social Sciences; eighty one from Science and Technology and twenty five from Nursing, Allied Health and Social Work.  The three hundred and four young women and one hundred and seventy four young men will be receiving diplomas at the Bachelor’s, Associates’ and Certificate levels with one particular student getting a Master’s Degree in Biodiversity, Conservation and Sustainable Development which comes through a consortium arrangement with the Anton de Kom University in Suriname, the University of Guyana and the University of the West Indies.  Distinguished graduates will be receiving honor chords with the tri-cable white chords representing Cum Laude; the gold for Magna Cum Laude and the purple for Summa Cum Laude.  At tomorrow’s ceremony, the keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Luz M. Longsworth, a Belizean woman who has had an illustrious career in business and academia in Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands and Belize.  Dr Longsworth is a former lecturer at the University of Belize and is currently a Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, and heads that institution’s Open Campus operations.  The Commencement Exercise begins at 10am.
