63 days ago, ground was broken at the mouth of the Sarstoon River where a Forward Operating Base is to go.  The last few weeks saw some members of the public clamouring for answers as to when the construction would start.  In a release sent out today by the Press Office, we learnt that the Minister of National Security, John Saldivar along with Minister Frank Mena were at the construction site today in the Toledo District where they got a first-hand look at the progress of the construction.  (VO STARTS)  The Government delegation expressed satisfaction at the pace of the construction as elements of the Belize Defense Force have set up temporary installations at the site as the work progresses.  According to the release, the Forward Operating Base at the mouth of the Sarstoon River is one of several initiatives being undertaken by the Government of Belize to safeguard and protect our national sovereignty. The Forward Operating Base, though modest in its beginnings, will establish a much needed presence and will serve to combat illicit activities such as drug, contraband and human trafficking, and weapons trading, which threaten Belize’s national security.
