Twenty two year old Shameka Flowers is accusing workers at the Northern Regional Hospital of gross negligence. She says that they threw away her dead baby. Flowers told Love News that she had a miscarriage on Friday but when she went this morning to get the body of her 19 week old fetus, she was told that it could not be found in the hospital morgue. Flowers recounted her ordeal.

SHAMEKA FLOWERS

“This morning I went to the morgue to pick up my baby’s body but they couldn’t find it. I don’t know what to do and they can’t find my baby anywhere and I don’t know what to do because what can I put in this box? My baby isn’t garbage for anyone to throw away. I have my papers right here saying that my baby is in the morgue and I can’t find my baby. I need some answers. This is not right.”

LOCAL REPORTER

“What were you told exactly when you approached them and asked them for the body of your baby?”

SHAMEKA FLOWERS

“They wanted to know the cost of the funeral and different things and they acted as if they wanted me to shut up and keep quiet about this. They said that they can’t find the baby either.”

LOCAL REPORTER

“Do you believe they threw away the baby?”

SHAMEKA FLOWERS

“That is what I feel like and my baby is not garbage to be thrown away. I already made the tomb, people in my village are waiting for me to go back to bury my baby and nobody is here. I don’t have a body. What will I put in this box? I can’t bury an empty box.”

LOCAL REPORTER

“Have you accepted that it was a miscarriage but you couldn’t accept the fact that you don’t have a body to bury.”

SHAMEKA FLOWERS

“Yes I accept that I had a miscarriage and now I just wanted to put my baby at rest and now I can’t do that because I don’t have anybody to put in my box.”

Flowers says she will seek legal advice.
