A 90-acre solar power installation will be done on the Placencia Peninsula and is being done under a program called, Best of Breed.  The installation will be a ten megawatt photovoltaic solar array and will be hurricane-proof.  The project is being done jointly by the Natcore Technology Incorporation and the Catalyst565 Incorporated out of New York City.  Catalyst565 Incorporated focus is on developing renewable energy by converting municipal waste, plastics and used tires into fuel oil and diesel fuel and directly into electricity. The company is currently developing projects in the US Virgin Islands, Canada, Germany and the Netherlands.  Solar energy also known as solar power comes about when sunlight is converted into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Solar power is anticipated to become the world’s largest source of electricity by 2050
