One Belizean man has acted on an idea of a pilgrimage to the Sarstoon Island in southern Belize.  Mario Lara who currently resides in California, USA, has created an account on www.gofundme.com that seeks to raise ten thousand dollars which would be used to have, what he dubs as a massive peach pilgrimage.  The event is being proposed to take place on September 10, 2016, commemorating the Battle of St George’s Caye and passing down to future generations, the courage to stand up for what is rightfully theirs.  The proposed pilgrimage would be planned with a clear point of not provoking an armed confrontation with Guatemala nor to make it a partisan political statement.  Rather, the idea is to respectfully assert Belize’s territorial integrity.  As we mentioned, the target is ten thousand dollars which would be used to plan, organize and execute the initiative.  It is hoped that the target would be reached by June 30, 2016 in order to have a proper execution of the pilgrimage.  An invitation has been extended to any Belizean who would like to be a part of the Event Team.
