A 13-year-old from Guatemala is dead after he was shot in the Cebada area in the Cayo District, reportedly by a soldier of the Belize Defense Force.  Guatemalan authorities have said that the minor, who was along with his younger brother and his father were in the adjacency zone planting pumpkin seeds but the local authorities have disputed that statement.  Reports reaching Love News indicate that the father, Carlos Alvarado Sr and his 11-year-old son made their way to the hospital in Melchor de Mencos, leaving the 13-year-old boy, Julio Alvarado, behind.   Belize’s authorities then had the child’s body taken to the San Ignacio morgue; earlier this evening the body was brought to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City for a post mortem examination.  Waiting at the morgue were representatives of the Guatemalan consulate who have been tasked with accompanying the boy’s body to his home town in Guatemala.
