45- year-old, Kim Brannon was in a situation that mirrors that of Laverne Longworth aka “Anti-Christ” and Veola Pook.  Today, after Brannon pled guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, she was sentenced to 8 years by Judge Troadio Gonzalez.  Since she has been on remand for some time now, Brannon will be free in about 6 months and 17 days.  Brannon’s time in prison is the result of killing her common-law-husband, Anthony Herrera after being in an abusive relationship for twenty four years.  Mitigation pleas were given by Brannon’s attorney, Leeroy Banner who begged for mercy and that the court takes into consideration the sexual and physical abuse endured by her in silence.  The incident occurred on December 13 in 2008 when Herrera was chopped to death inside his home that he shared with Brannon in Burrell Boom Village, Belize District.  As a guide to sentencing, Judge Gonzalez referred to the cases of Pook and Longsworth.  In the case of Lavern Longsworth, she was first convicted of murder then on appeal saw her life sentence and conviction quashed by the judges of the court of appeal and replaced with manslaughter and given 8 years for manslaughter.  Longsworth had set her common law husband, David White on fire back in 2010.  Meanwhile, the case with Veola Pook had her found guilty of murder and then on appeal saw her conviction and sentence overturn and set aside and an appeal order.  She later pleaded guilty to the lesser charge and due to the fact that both women alleged they were being abused, they were given 8 years behind bars only with time on remand deducted.  Pook had set her common law husband, Orlando Vasquez on fire, killing him on New Year’s Eve some years ago.  Brannon’s initial verdict was rendered in November 2011 before Justice Herbert Lord and she was sentenced to life imprisonment.  That verdict was overturned and a retrial was ordered in October 2013 and now, two and a half years later, her second trial has concluded.
