Footballer Shot on Ambergris Caye

On Friday night, a well-known football player was murdered in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.  Police found the body of twenty six year old Honduran national, Melvin Almendarez with a number of abrasions to the head and body. The body was found south of San Pedro Town in an area known as Mosquito Coast. Love News spoke to Superintendent Sandra Bodden, Officer in Command at San Pedro Town Precinct who gave us more details.

“On Friday 6tth May at about 11:30 PM acting upon information received of a dead body San Pedro police visited an area half a mile south of San Pedro Town. On arrival at the location at about 130 feet on the left shoulder of a feeder road the lifeless body of a Hispanic male person was seen lying face up with severe injuries to his head, face and abrasions to his chest. The body was dressed in a blue checkered short pants and it had not shirt.”

Almendarez was last seen by a security guard in the area. Police has one suspect at the moment who they believe can assist in their investigations.

“Initial investigations revealed that the deceased was later identified to be Melvin Ariel Almendares Maheia, a 26 year old Honduran painter of San Pedro. He was last seen alive on the 6th of May by security guards in the area. The scene was later processed by the scenes of crime officers and the body was transported to the San Pedro Polyclinic where it was pronounced dead. It was later transported to the KHMH morgue where a post mortem was done.”

Almendarez leaves behind a wife and three children.
