Garifuna Council Elects New Executive

The National Garifuna Council has a new executive. During the thirty second annual NGC convention in Libertad Village in the Corozal District, Sandra Miranda was elected as President. Other members of the executive are Vice President, Hazel Cayetano; second Vice president, Stanislus Martinez; Secretary, Dr. Ethel Arzu; Assitant Secretary, Marsha Mejia; Treasurer, Marietta Enriquez and Assistant Treasurer, Oscar Marcello. This year’s convention focused on Garifuna spirituality and matters affecting Garinagu such as land issues, economic stability and the impact of crime on youths. The 2017 convention is scheduled to take place in Belize City.
