Cyclist’s Mother Dies following Accident; Area Representative to Be Charged

It made the news back in early April when the mother of cyclist, Nissan Arana was knocked down on the Philip Goldson Highway, in Trial Farm Village, Orange Walk. The man who was behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit Julia Arana was Orange Walk south area representative, Jose Mai. The news is that Arana died this weekend. Love News spoke with Nissan Arana to get more information.

NISSAN ARANA

Nissan said his mother was hospitalized for six weeks and then she was released on May 10. He said the accident affected her drastically and spoke about her condition after the accident.

Jose Mai was served with a notice of intended prosecution but no charges were laid in connection with the incident. With this latest development, it is unclear whether charges are forthcoming. Nissan said the family is hoping that justice will be served.

Julia Arana had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for tomorrow. We spoke with Mai’s attorney, Eamon Courtenay who told us his client has been notified of Arana’s death.   They are currently awaiting the post mortem examination to find out if her death was due to complications resulting from the accident. Courtenay also stated that his client sends his deepest condolences to the family.
