Duo Busted with Out -of-Season Hicatee Turtles

While the Hicatee turtle is considered a delectable dish, there are regulations that come with catching these turtles. The Fisheries Department in Belize City made a huge bust today. Acting on information received, the officers caught two men, one in Ladyville Village and one in Biscayne Village with three and thirteen turtles respectively.  Fisheries Officer Rigoberto Quintana spoke about the bust.

There is a closed season for the turtle. The turtle can be caught but there are specific regulations that come with catching them. Quintana told us about these regulations.

After the turtles are measured, offences that were committed will determine the charges. Quintana spoke about the charges that should apply.
