Joint Ops Results in Destruction of Illegal Crops and Uncovering of 20 Undocumented Persons Living in Belize

Members of the Belize Defense Force were on patrol in the Patchakan area in the Corozal District last Thursday, June 11 which led to the detention of three Belizean men.  The men: 44-year-old, vegetable vendor, Edilberto Ku; 59-year-old, John Triminio – a farmer of Xaibe Village and 28-year-old, Gabriel Chan, were found with eighty five pounds of marijuana estimated to have a street value of seven thousand dollars.  The trio was handed over to Corozal Police Station where they were charged for drug trafficking.  Meanwhile, in the western part of the country, a joint patrol was conducted in the areas of Valentin Camp, Retiro, Cebada and Sapote between May 29 and June 9.  The agencies teaming up for this operation were the Belize Defense Force, the Belize Police Department, Forestry Department, Ministry of Human Development and Friends for Conservation and Development.  During these patrols, the law enforcement agencies destroyed six hundred and fifty marijuana plants of varying height, 50 acres of pumpkin and 100 coffee plants.  In the Retiro area located on the Belize side, the Belizean authorities found that six families consisting of twenty persons were found living there illegally.  The families were ordered to leave.
