Istanbul Turkey 2There is currently a civil unrest taking place in Istanbul, Turkey where the military has taken control of the administration of the country in a reported effort to reinstate constitutional order, human rights and freedoms, the rule of law and the general security it says had been taken away.  It is a dire situation involving jets, gunfire and hostages … and while it is almost seven thousand miles away from Belize, reports tonight are that there are a handful of Belizeans stuck at the airport since all the airports have been shut down.  Love News understands that the Belize delegation were on their way to Africa to attend an AIDS Summit.  We have spoken to the Chief Executive Officer, Lawrence Sylvestre from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who has assured us that the ministry has been in communication with one of the Belizeans and that they have also informed the Belizean personnel posted in London, Brussels and Istanbul of the situation.  Due to the military coup there is not much that can be done in terms of extraction but Lawrence says they are alert and as soon as some calm is restored, they will give the necessary assistance to get the Belizeans to safety.  We will keep following this story.
