Four persons were arraigned this afternoon in the Belmopan’s Magistrates Court in connection with the armed robbery of the Income Tax Department in Belmopan on Friday, July 15.  In that robbery just under thirty thousand dollars were taken.  Leeroy Banner is the attorney for one of the alleged culprits, Ixchel Tablada.  Banner spoke to the media on his disappointment when the judge denied his client bail for the charge of conspiracy to commit robbery.

“I was trying to impress on the court that under section 16 of the Crime Controls Act that abatement to commit robbery is a double offense and in this case my client she has three young children and her mother is sick and we think that it is better that they should be given because there is no evidence that links her to the crime. To me the court did not even consider my submission so I’m shocked that they are not even considering what I have to say to the court. The prosecution is saying that we still need to try and recover money and that robbery is on the rise in Belize pretty much.”

The three others arraigned are Richard Hyde, Devon Brooks and David Cruz.  On Friday, July 15 the MIT Unit along with Belmopan Police had visited an area behind the Another World area in Roaring Creek Village where they found a nine millimeter pistol with thirteen live round.  The firearm has been identified as belonging to the Belize Police Department.  It was taken from the officer who was tied up during the robbery.
