NEMO Toledo Activated for Incoming Storm
Authorities in the Toledo District have also been very active as we hear in this report that was filed earlier today by correspondent Paul Mahung.
“NEMO TOLEDO members and their NEMO Toledo District Coordinator Kenton Parham have been in planning and preparation sessions. Kenton Parham advises the general public in Punta Gorda & Toledo Rural communities to remain alert and stay attuned to their radio or TV updates for official NEMO advisories related to Tropical Storm Earl.”
“We have been actively trying to inform our communities and especially the flood prone areas and coastal villages we have made contact with all of them and they are doing their own preparations in regards to this storm coming. Today we will be focusing on the coastal areas, Punta Negra especially that is one of our vulnerable communities and we will be looking at an evacuation for them within today depending on how fast this thing is moving towards us. All the monitors we have in place are alert they are monitoring the rivers, at this time everything is low and normal and we haven’t had any rains in the last day or so but when this system begins to impact us our monitors are ready and our chairman in these flood prone areas are also ready and they have been calling and wanting information but it’s a good sign because they are aware of it and they are being prepared. Like I said the emergency center will remain operational 24/7 to respond to any incident that might occur as a result of this tropical wave. Our flood prone communities mainly Blue Creek, Crique Sarco, Golden Stream, Trio these areas have all been contacted and they are all on alert.”
“Your contact numbers are?”
“Contact Number is 702.2354 that is the office number, my cell phone is 630.9787 and also 664.6603 so those are the numbers and we remain activated and so there is always someone sitting here at the phones.”
