Caves Reopen Following Hurricane Earl

Archaeological sites have been closed following Hurricane Earl as some of them sustained damages. Since then a number of the sites have been reopened. Communications and Marketing Director at NICH, Holly Edgell talked about the reopening of the sites.

Holly Edgell commented on the level of damages sustained by the sites, stating that there will need to be an assessment of the Maya Temples.

While the sites remain closed for repairs, it directly affects the income of tourism related businesses. This is one of the issues that concerns NICH Edgell stated that they are making sure the sites are safe for reopening as soon as possible.

NICH will advise the public when the remaining sites will reopen. Advisories on the state of Archaeological Sites are also issued by the National Emergency Management Organization.
