Attorney General, Vanessa Retreage was officially sworn in this morning as a Senator and the Minister of Natural Resources.  This morning’s ceremony follows a re-assignment of Cabinet portfolios on August 1 by the Prime Minister which saw the Ministry of National Security split up; leaving John Saldivar with responsibility for the Belize Coast Guard and the Belize Defense Force and having his new portfolio dubbed the Ministry of Defense.  Senator Godwin Hulse moved from Natural Resources to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration with responsibility for the Police and Immigration Departments.  Senator Retreage was given the assignment of Natural Resources but as an unelected Minister she would have to go through the Senate.  Senator Francine Burns was asked to step aside in order to allow for Retreage to take up the Ministry of Natural Resources.  Retreage took her oath as Senator this morning at the National Assembly during the Senate Sitting.  Subsequent to that she was sworn in at the Belize House in Belmopan as a Cabinet Minister by the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Colville Young.
