Esophageal atresia is a disorder of the digestive system in where the oesophagus is not fully developed which therefore disrupts the linkage from the mouth to the stomach.  It is a congenital defect, meaning that it occurs before birth.  Cassia August and Shaheed Ritchie are the parents of twin babies that were born recently.  One of them has been diagnosed with the esophageal atresia and was transferred from Dangriga to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City.  The baby was air lifted with his mother today to travel abroad for urgent attention.  We spoke with the parents today.

The treatment that Baby Liam is about to receive comes through coordination by the World Paediatric Project as Khandice Tillett explained.

Camille Ferguson who is also attached to the World Paediatric Project spoke of another baby who is heading abroad for medical attention.

The World Paediatric Project has been known to aid in having medical teams come to Belize to conduct various medical sessions ranging from surgeries to physical therapy.
