The first ever Sarstoon Eco Challenge was held on Saturday morning. Twenty nine kayakers participated in a race to Sarstoon Island. When we spoke with organizer of the challenge and leader of the Belize Territorial Volunteers, Wil Maheia he stated that the kayakers were in good spirits. However, upon reaching the mouth of the Sarstoon River the Kayakers encountered the Guatemalan Armed Forces. Wil Maheia told us what happened.

Maheia stated that the kayakers showed bravery despite the Guatemalan Armed Forces being heavily armed. They are asking the government to take note of the intimidation.
