Gion Bernard in ICU Following Shooting Incident

Authorities on the north side of Belize City are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at around five o’clock yesterday evening on Barrack Road.  The shooting has left 31-year-old, Gion Bernard in the ICU at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City.  Reports reaching Love News are that Bernard was standing on Barrack Road near a gate when a male person dressed in a blue shirt on a bicycle approached him from the direction of Freetown Road and let out a barrage of bullets in Bernard’s direction.  The shooter escaped towards Newtown Barracks leaving Bernard with gunshot injuries to his abdomen, his right hand, his right rib cage and lower back.  Scenes of Crime personnel found seven expended nine millimetre shells at the scene.  No one has been detained in this latest shooting.  Bernard is well known to the authorities as he has stood trial for the attempted murder of Carrington Bowden in 2012.  He has also faced charges of rape and firearm offences.  In May 2015, Bernard was acquitted along with his mother of firearm charges.
