“A Guatemalan national by the name of Mario Salam has been convicted yesterday on three counts of rape in the Southern session of the Supreme Court here in Dangriga. This stems in a report in 2014 that was made against Salam by a female who was sixteen years old at the time. She reported that Salam grabbed her and placed a knife to her throat and began to rape her on three different occasions in their home in the village of Middlesex in the Stann Creek district. She also reported that Salam raped her on the eleventh, twelfth and eighteenth of December 2014 while her mother was at work and her siblings were at school. In his defense in court, Salam said that it was another individual who he saw rape the female but after a jury of eight women and one man deliberated for some time yesterday Salam was found guilty on three counts of rape. He has been on remand since the 2 of February 2015. Sentencing has been deferred until the 19th of October. Reporting for Love News from Dangriga, I am Harry Arzu.”
