Education Ministry Pools Substitute Teachers in the Event of Prolonged Strike

Application forms are now available for substitute teachers that will take over the classrooms in the event the Belize National Teachers’ Union continues their industrial action.  Education Minister, Patrick Faber spoke on the pool of teachers that will be chosen from should it come to that.

A memorandum was sent out dated October 4 from the Chief Education Officer, Dr Carol Babb and addressed to the managers and principals of primary and secondary schools where the procedures and checklist were highlighted for the emergency permit process.  Minister Faber, in his interview with the media yesterday told us that it is unfortunate that it has come to this but they are required to fulfil their mandate in education along with the management bodies of the various schools.

The applicants into the emergency pool of teachers are required to submit their qualifications and undergo a medical assessment as well as a background check.
