Strike Fund Will Not Be Used to Pay Teachers’ Wages

Updated: October 28, 2016

Today members of the Council of Management, once again, clarified that the strike fund is not meant to pay the teachers. Thousands of teachers were on strike for 11 days and the Ministry of Education has decided to hold its salary contributions from those teachers who participated in the strike. The BNTU is insisting that the decision to pay the teachers or not is the purview of the managing authorities of each school and not the Ministry.  The Ministry had also suggested that the BNTU use its strike fund to pay the teachers. Endevora Jorgenson, Nadia Caliz and Luke Palacio, reiterated the union’s position on this matter.
