Police Seeks Answers In Shooting of Two Women in Northern Belize

Two women from Corozal Town are in the Northern Regional Hospital after they were shot in Carmelita Village, Orange Walk District on Friday evening. We spoke with Officer in Charge of the Orange Walk Police Station, Assistant Superintendent of Police Selvin Tillett who shared the details.

“Orange Walk police visited the Northern Regional Hospital where one Sandra Rios a 34 year old unemployed of Chula Vista area of Corozal was seen suffering from a gunshot wound to her right foot and also a 16 year old female also of Corozal was seen with a shot wound to the left arm. Initial investigations revealed that on the same date at around 11:45pm both females were in Carmelita Village when a male person dressed in a white shirt and blue camouflage confronted them and when about 20 feet away fired shots at them causing their injuries. As a result one Floyd Hyde, a 28 year old Belizean laborer of Carmelita Village was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder.”

There is reliable information that the women knew the attacker who allegedly is connected to the sixteen year old. While the women stated that they know the identity of the shooter, the accused has denied having any involvement.
