The Government of Belize is demanding four hundred thousand dollars each from Attorney Sharon Pitts and Andre Vega, the son of former Minister, Gaspar Vega. A release from GOB stated, quote, “As a result of the findings, of the investigation into the matter concerning Ms. Sharon Pitts and Mr. Andre Vega, letters were sent to both persons on 31st October, 2016 demanding, the repayment to the Government of Belize the sum of $400,000.00 which was paid to each of them.” End of quote.  The matter is in relation to the recent land scandal in which both Pitts and Vega collected four hundred thousand dollars. The release sent out this evening from the Government of Belize continued by stating, quote, “Both Ms. Pitts and Mr. Vega, upon collection of the “compensation” amounts, made certain representations and warranties which were breached and, by the terms of the agreement with the Government of Belize, agreed to “indemnify and keep indemnified” the Government “from and against all proceedings, costs, claims, expenses, liabilities whatsoever that may directly or indirectly arise from the breach of the warranties and representations herein before made.” End of quote.  Pitts and Vega have been given thirty days within which to respond to the demands.  In absence of a response the letter noted that the Government will assume that the contents of the letter have been received and ignored and, proceed to take any and all action necessary to ensure the full recovery of all moneys to which the Government of Belize is entitled, without further notice.
