Jihad Goes to Court for Marijuana Possession

Fifty-six year old Murphy Mclaren, aka “Jihad”, was charged with possession of 8.6 grams of cannabis, when he appeared today before Magistrate Norman Rodriguez. Mclaren pled not guilty to the charge. He was released on a bail of $600 and his case was adjourned until January 17 of next year. The incident occurred around 7:30 this morning. Mclaren was driving a black Ford Explorer on the Phillip Goldson Highway, coming from Orange Walk, when he was stopped at a police check point in Sandhill Village, Belize District. The police officer at the checkpoint said he decided to search the vehicle because he smelled the strong aroma of cannabis. According to the police, the search resulted in the discovery of the drug. As a result, Mclaren was arrested and charged.
