Defence Minister Tours Bases and Camps Out West

bdf-tour-1Minister of Defence, John Saldivar is in the western part of the country on his familiarization tour of the bases for the Belize Defence Force.  Yesterday, Minister Saldivar was accompanied by BDF’s Deputy Commander, Colonel Steven Ortega at the Belizario Camp in Central Farm, Cayo District.  He took a full tour of the facility there and was briefed on the international military training currently being undertaken as part of the Tropical Dagger 16 exercise with the participation of security forces from Jamaica, Canada and the United States and Belize.  Minister Saldivar was also taken on a fly-over along the Belize/Guatemala border where he observed several posts where BDF soldiers are posted including Xunantunich, Arenal and El Pilar.  The tour out west continues tomorrow after which he will be moving to the southern part of the country.  The purpose of Minister Saldivar’s tour is for him to take stock of the state of readiness and level of efficiency of the force in executing its various functions.
