PACT Funds Protection of the Chiquibul

A grant award ceremony was held this morning in Belize City where PACT, the Protected Area Conservation Trust, awarded two point twenty eight  million dollars to four agencies tasked with protecting and preserving the Chiquibul Forest. Grantees included the Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD), Ya’axche Conservation Trust, the Belize Defence Force, and the Forest Department. These four agencies will collaborate in safeguarding the Chiquibul, Vaca, Colombia and Bladen Forest Reserves.  At the ceremony we spoke to the Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development, Omar Figueroa, his CEO, Dr. Colin Young and FCD’s Executive Director, Raphael Manzanero.

The Chiquibul Forest is one of the largest protected areas in the country.
